Jesus, I am with you

I read this quote this morning b Jurgen Moltmann: "Who can stay awake in this night of God?  Who will not be as if paralyzed by it?  Christ's struggle was with God.  This was his real agony.  He overcame it through his self-surrender.  That was his victory and our hope."

Powerful words as we come into Holy Week this next week.  I pray that each of you reading this will find some time to "stay awake" during Holy Week.  I have so often found Easter to be a celebration of Jesus' resurrection and yet missed the beauty of how he expressed his love for his disciples throughout the last week of his life.  He eagerly desired the company of his disciples in the upper room, (Luke 22:15), he served them by washing their feet (John 13) and he spoke tender, beautiful words of love, comfort and peace, preparing them for his death and departure and he desired their watchful presence and accompaniment in the Garden.  God in flesh was vulnerable and desired human companionship.  Perhaps a sign of my own self-surrender this next week will be to be watchful with him, to be present to him, to know him in his struggle and vulnerability.  I want my presence to whisper to him "I love you Jesus and I am here with you."
